Life in the Kingdom: Victory over Lust, part 1

Today’s Passages: Matthew 5:27-30, Phil 4:13, Isaiah 55:1-3, Matthew 5:8, Proverbs 5:3-5, 7:21-27

 

Review

The broad structure of Jesus’ teaching carries the message that:

1) Soaking in our ______________ found in the beatitudes (Matt 5:1-11),

2) transforms us towards a ______________of being salt and light with a radical righteousness (Matthew 5:12-20)

3) that is walked out in our __________ ___________ (Matt 5:21-7:29)

Two things to look for in these teachings on daily living:

  1. The ___________ _____________of brokenness, which are the recurring results of what happens when God’s will is not done.

Some Weapons of truth to fight the battle of lust…

#1 Your mind ________ be ____________________.

Lust doesn’t have to be your _______________. You are not bound to life-long ______________ at the hands of lust.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil 4:13

 

#2. The joy and excitement you are looking for is only __________ in ___________.

“Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live.”        Isaiah 55:1-3

Nothing cuts the _____________ of lust more than having your soul ________________ in God.

 

#3.  Lust puts up a ____________ between you and God. 

Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.  Matthew 5:8

If you’ve got a good thing going with God and you don’t want anything to get in the _________ , then don’t go there with lust.

 

#4. It’s a _________! Lust is a false promise of satisfaction.

For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is as bitter as poison, sharp as a double-edged sword…. Proverbs 5:3-5

…Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng. Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death. Proverbs 7:21-27

 

Living as a Disciple in the Kingdom…
